Rom 13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
In the last post we discussed the fact that we are not under rulers but are under laws that we must follow as believers that do not violate the Word of God. Today we are going to address our responsibility of respect toward those who represent us.
Now i think we can all agree many of the political leaders in our country today have no real concern about our welfare nor what is best for America. But we must remember that there is no leader in place that God has not allowed to be there.
Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
We must remember that we represent the God of Heaven and as a result we need to respect the office that our representatives represent as the Bible says, “pay ye tribute,” “render therefore to all their dues,” “custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”
Therefore we should never use disrespectful language to speak about anyone in office. We should always when talking about the President as President Obama and Senators, Governors and Mayors in a most respectful and appropriate manner.
2Pe 2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
Notice what Peter says about those who are “not afraid to speak evil of dignities” he calls them “selfwilled” and walk “after the flesh.” It is a sin to disrespect those who are representing us. Let us be children of light not darkness. The best we can do that is to “Mind Our Manners.”
